Abstract
1373638 Photo-conductive composition EASTMAN KODAK CO 18 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 53637/71 Heading G2C [Also in Division C3] Photo-conductive compositions contain a cocrystalline complex of a pyrylium dye and an electrically insulating polymer containing an alkylidone diarylene residue in the recurring unit which is prepared by dissolving the dye and the polymer in an organic solvent containing a halogenated hydrocarbon to give a solution, then slowly combining the solution with a non- halogenated, non-polar organic liquid in which the dye and polymer are insoluble, thus precipitating a co-crystalline complex of dye and polymer, and then separating the complex from the solvent and precipitating liquid. The examples describe compositions containing the cocrystalline complex of various thiapyrylium dyes and polycarbonates, organic photo-conductors and polymeric binders, e.g. polystyrene. Such a composition may be coated on a polyethylene terephthalate film support bearing an electrically conducting layer of cuprous iodide.
