Abstract

1299958 Electrophotographic element MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 27, Feb 1970 9631/70 Heading H1K An electrophotographic element comprises a conductive base, a layer of vitreous selenium having a thickness less than 3 microns and a layer of organic photoconductor which is insensitive to visible light. The conductive base may be Al, or a thin layer of Au, Ag, Ni, Cr, Ti, Sn or Cu 2 I 2 on a sheet of glass, cellulose acetate, polystyrene, polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate. The layer of conducting material may be provided by evaporation, electroplating or laminating and the conducting layer and the sheet may be both transparent and flexible. The selenium layer may contain As or Te and is vacuum deposited. The organic photoconductor is preferably poly-N-vinyl carbazole, polyacenaphthalene, poly-9-(4-pentenyl)- carbazole, poly 9-(5-hexyl) carbazole, 1, 3- dibromo-poly-N-vinyl carbazole, 3 amino-carbazole in phenol resin or a copolymer of N-vinyl carbazole and methyl acrylate. The organic photo-conductive layer may additionally contain a polycarbonate, a pyrylium salt sensitizer and a plasticizer such as chlorinated diphenyl or, dioctyl phosphate.
