1,254,097. Porcelain. NIPPON GAISHI K.K. 14 Aug., 1970 [16 Oct., 1969], No. 39328/70. Heading C1J. A porcelain article comprising a crystalline phase containing corundum, mullite, quartz and 25 to 40% crystobalite, is prepared from a mixture of 10 to 35% by wt. alumina e.g. calcined bauxite or calcined alumina, with 65 to 90% of a mixture containing 10-20% feldspar, 30-60% quartz, in which 20% by wt. of the particles have effective diameter larger than 10Á, 20-50% clay, wherein the chemical analysis is: with a K 2 O/(K 2 O +Na 2 O) ratio of 1/ 10 to 1/2. The mixture is then dehydrated and shaped, dried and fired at between 1200‹ and 1350‹ C. The article has bending and mechanical strength suitable for electrical insulator use.
