Abstract

1,253,955. Feeding webs. AGFA GEVAERT A.G. 26 June, 1970 [16 July, 1969], No. 31040/70. Heading B8R. [Also in Divisions F4 and G2] An arrangement for deflecting a web 1, e.g. a photographic film, through 180 degrees comprises a support 8 carrying side screens 6 which are mounted parallel toone another perpendicularly to the surface of the web, which have openings 7 arranged on an arc concentric to the deflection axis 3a of the web, and between which guide rollers 2 are rotatably mounted; compressed air, introduced into the space defined by the support 8, the side screens 6 and the web 1, blows the web into an arc-like loop, away from a roller 3 on which the web initially lies, until the openings 7 are partially covered to allow an escape path for the air, whereby a state of equilibrium results with the web resting on a cushion of air. The arrangement may be used in a tunnel dryer through which the web is guided meander-fashion in elongated loops (Fig. 3, not shown) or in a rotary dryer having a stellate disposition of elongated loops (Fig. 4, not shown).
