Abstract

A wall, which may retain ground between two levels 10, 11, comprises bars 1, 2 arranged as stretchers and headers, respectively, the latter being furnished with upwardly and downwardly directed flanges 4-7. The flanges 6, 7 at the end of each bar 2 farthest from the outer side of the wall have matching convex and concave configurations so that they interlock with the corresponding flanges of the adjacent bars. An additional set of bars 1A may be laid parallel with the bars 1 in abutment with the flanges 6, 7. The ends of mutually-abutting bars I or 1A are situated adjacent one of the bars 2. The wall may have batter, as shown, and the dimensions of the bars 2 are preferably such that according to the angle of repose of material to be retained by the wall said material has no tendency to flow between the bars 1. The wall may be faced with panels (not shown), in which case the bars 2 or at a part of the outer ends thereof are made of a "nailable" concrete. A filling material may be lodged between the bars 1, 2.
