Abstract

1,253,627. Two-part coupling. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 May, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 26336/69. Heading H2E. An electrical coupling comprises two housings of plastics 1, 16 adapted to engage one another such that before electrical contact is made, a key 25 on part 16 (Fig. 7) and keyway 14 on part 1 (Fig. 2) must correctly be engaged. The key and keyway have a modified saw-tooth cross section. Pins 2 and sockets 17 are secured in the respective housings (see Fig. 1) by moulding or by sections thereof 5, 20 abutting shoulders in the housings and circlips 7, 22. A double-sided printed circuit board 11 may be supported in a channel formed in the transverse walls 9 of member 1 along the line of the wall 8. These walls also increase the leakage path. The board 11 is fastened to 1 using lugs (12, Fig. 3, not shown). Connection between pins and printed circuit is by lead wires wrapped round the pins with a tool (not shown). The edge of the key 25 may be bevelled slightly for easy location in the key-way and the holes for the connectors may be countersunk at the insertion ends. (For Figures see next page.)
