Abstract

1,253,525. Slip couplings. N. S. HARDY. 30 Oct., 1969 [28 Nov., 1968], No. 56423/68. Heading F2U. To allow the use of positive stops for the traversing mechanism of a centre lathe, the mechanism is driven through a gear-wheel 20 connected to a hub 22 by a slip coupling comprising friction pads 13 fast with the wheel 20, and pressure plates 24, 25 respectively fast with the hub and axially movable along the hub by springs 26 in a nut 28 screw-threaded on the hub to allow adjustment of the coupling slip torque, for various lathe speeds. An indicator 33a on the nut co-operates with a scale on a dial 34 fast with the pressure plate 25. A stop 32 on the hub limits the movement of the nut to less than a single revolution. Again, Fig. 3 (not shown), the pressure plate 24 may be replaced by a second gear-wheel (40) of equal size to the first gear-wheel.
