Abstract
1,253,505. Electroless plating. ENGELHARD MINERALS AND CHEMICALS CORP. July 1, 1970, No.32024/70. Heading C7F. A carbonaceous substrate, e.g. graphite pellets, is electroless plated with Ni, heated to 800 to 1100‹C. in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, cooled, electroless plated with e.g. Cu, Ni, Cr, Fe or Co, and finally heated to 500 to 700‹ C. The substrate may be first sensitized and activated with stannous and palladium chlorides. A Ni plating bath may comprise (g./l.) NiSO 4 .6H 2 O 17, Na H 2 PO 2 .H 2 O 24, sodium acetate 41, and acetic acid 30. A Cu plating bath comprises (gm) potassium sodium tartrate 79, copper sulphate 28, NaOH 20, sodium carbonate 32, water 1‹5 litres, formaldehyde 10 c.c.s.
