Abstract
1344787 Removing Ni, Co and Cu from waste solutions DART INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Sept 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40726/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] Nickel and cobalt in the form of their sulphides and possibly copper as cuprous oxide or copper sulphide, are removed from solutions containing soluble complexes of nickel, cobalt and/or copper by precipitation with sodium hydrosulphite at a temperature of at least 120‹ F. The solutions must be diluted to a maximum soluble metal content of 5 gms./litre with the pH adjusted to 9 or less. The sodium hydrosulphite may be mixed with boron hydride or hydrazine, but should be in excess. The copper will generally precipitate as metal under these conditions (see Division C7). The process is particularly applicable to the treatment of waste solutions from electroless plating or metal stripping operations.
