Abstract
1344600 Recovering metals from alloy scrap SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd 6 Sept 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 41425/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] At least one of Ni, Co and Cu are recovered from Fe-Cr scrap alloys in a process comprising the steps of heating the alloy in contact with an alkali metal sulphate and/or sulphite under conditions that are reducing only with respect to those metals whose oxides have energies of formation lower than that of ion in order to convert the Fe and Cr to the oxides and/or sulphides; and quenching the reaction product to cause disintegration. The metal values to be recovered may be extracted from the quench product chemically or mechanically. Exemplified chemical methods are leaching with H 2 SO 4 or with (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 .
