Abstract

1,253,384. Laminates. MARPLE PRINTING CO. Ltd. 9 May, 1969 [11 July, 1968], No. 33208/68. Addition to 1,241,799. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] The apparatus for applying adhesive to a moving fabric claimed in the parent Specification is modified by the inclusion of a further adhesive applying assembly comprising a roller 50 and trough 52, spaced relative to the first such assembly 26, 32, for applying adhesive to a second web B which is then laminated with a first web A at a nip between steam-heated variable speed rollers 28 and 58. A third web C may be laminated between the other webs by tracking it to the nip via a variable-speed conveyer 62 and a universally movable roller 30 or 60. The webs A and B may be fed to the adhesive applying assemblies via conveyers 18 and 42 having convexly curved supporting surfaces and expander rollers 22 and 48 which are movable relative to the assemblies for varying the angle of lap between fabric and roller 26 or 50. The web A may also travel via a conveyer 12, tension rollers 14, photo-electric edge-sensing means 20 and a stenter chain conveyer 16. After passage through the nip 28, 58, the laminate passes via nip 28, 68 to a steam-heated cylinder 72 with which it is held in contact by means of an endless flexible blanket 74 and then to storage via a nip 72, 84. The webs may be fabrics of natural or synthetic fibres, or plastics or foam sheeting and in particular, webs A and B may be fabrics of "Orlon" (Trade Mark), acrylan, jersey, acetate tricot or nylon tricot and web C may be polyurethane foam. The adhesive may be polyvinyl acetate or an acrylic, urethane or nitrile.
