Abstract

A calendering device for e.g. laminating two fabric webs e.g. lining and garment panels using a thermoplastic adhesive comprises two heated pref. freely rotatable drums around which co-operating runs of a pair of belts (e.g. silicone coated metal) pass together in pref. an S-shaped path. The webs, pre-coated with adhesive pass between the cooperating runs so that they are heated (on both sides) and pressed together. One or both belts may be driven and pref. adjacent the inlet end of the belts a presser roll forces them together to increase the nip force between them. The belts may pass around ram actuated tensioning rollers, and immediately prior to the outlet the belts may be pressed against an auxiliary roller by a short endless belt. Because of the long path over which the webs are heated and pressed together the device can operate at high production rates.
