Abstract
1,253,130. Measuring angular displacement electrically. V. L. CHURCHILL & CO. Ltd. June 25, 1970 [June 27, 1969], No.32636/69. Heading G1N. Apparatus for checking the alignment of vehicle wheels as described in Specification 1,214,535 (Division G1) is modified by the substitution of pendulum coil systems for the gravity sensing rheostats previously used, to provide signals indicative of angular displacements of the wheels. The pendulum of a system 21 carries a coil 27 and is constrained to swing in a plane orthogonal of the vehicle centre line and between fixed coils 28 whereby the output signal represents camber. A second similar system 23 produces a signal representing caster. In a third system 22 the coil 27 is movable in a plane parallel to the vehicle axis and the signal represents king-pin indication. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, a pendulum arm 34 supports an iron core 33 for movement with a differential transformer including an inner primary coil 31 and two outer secondary coils 32.
