A nuclear reactor pressure vessel is formed of steel wires and outer shells, either of which may contain the coolant-moderator fluid in the event of a rupture of the other. The inner and outer shells, 12 and 10, are separated by a space 16 filled with the coolant at a pressure equal to that in the reactor space 13. Fluid flow communication between 13 and 16 is effected at 36, 46, where the coolant flow sleeves 30, 42 have a loose fit in the shell 12. A stainless steel cladding is formed on both the shells 10, 12.
