Abstract

1,252,747. Dye-bath including alkanoic acid dispersion. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 6 Dec., 1968, No. 58111/68. Heading B1V. [Also in Division D1] A dye-bath comprising a dispersion of a substantially water insoluble C 6 to C 18 alkanoic acid in water is obtained by adding to about 3000 pbw water, 1 to 5 pbw dye (see Group D1), from 1.12 to 5.75 pbw sodium or ammonium salt of the acid and an anionic or non-ionic dispersant, and adding to the mixture a strong acid in amount to convert at least part of the salt into the corresponding acid, the dispersant being used to give liberated acid to dispersant weight ratio of 1:1 to 3:1. The dispersant may be sulphated alcohols, disodium 4-dodecylated oxydibenzenesulphonate, alkylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol, ethoxylated nonyl phenol. The acid globules in the dispersion preferably have diameter 0.1 to 5.0 microns.
