Abstract

125,217. Croll, J. T. April 11, 1918. Joint-making packing.-Washers or rings &c. for man-hole doors, tanks, &c. are manufactured from paper or mill board &c. which is impregnated with various substances according to the use to which the washer is to be put. The paper &c. is then arranged in layers and compressed, and is finally cut to the desired shape. The impregnating substances for water-tight joints may be paraffin wax and india-rubber solution and for steam, air and gas tight joints a mixture containing white or red lead. Similarly, oil or acid resisting substances may be employed for impregnation. Specifications 2447/74, 3946/77, 2389/84, 11732/84, 10867/86, 12230/90, 19729/97, and 22894/99 are referred to.
