Abstract

1,251,573. Yarns; textured warp; knitting. T. E. ADAMSON. 15 Sept., 1969, No. 45321/ 69. Headings D1C; D1F; D1K and D1W. A method of producing a textured warp fabric material comprises the steps of knitting a plurality of spaced parallel thermoplastic textile yarns into a ravellable warp fabric, heating the warp fabric to the thermoplastic temperature of the yarn material to impart a textured set to the yarns therein, ravelling the warp fabric by linearly pulling the separate yarns, and directly feeding the textured strands produced into a textile machine at a controlled rate to produce a textured warp fabric material. The process is preferably performed continuously. In a preferred embodiment, the yarns are knitted into an open loop tricot pattern for ease of ravelling. The end product may be a knitted fabric. The process may be performed discontinuously in which case the warp knitted fabric is wound on a roll for storage for future use. The roll of fabric is heated to the thermoplastic temperature of the yarn material by placing the roll in an autoclave. The treated fabric is subsequently ravelled and used as above. The yarns may initially be knit into a double strand open loop warp knit fabric. Examples of suitable materials for the yarn are acetate, nylon or polypropylene. When the warp knit fabric is wound on a roll for storage prior to ravelling, releasable weft threads are positioned in the fabric to maintain the yarns in the knitted relationship. The weft threads are withdrawn at the ravelling stage, and the fabric is passed over a comb to produce the textured warp yams.
