Abstract
1290163 Textured yarns J P STEVENS & CO INC 14 Nov 1969 [15 Nov 1968] 55839/69 Headings D1F and D1W A process for producing a latent texturized yarn comprises passing a continuous multifilament thermoplastic yarn 1 wherein each of said filaments is a homofilament, over at least one heated surface 15 while maintaining the yarn under tension which permits shrinkage of individual filaments, and controlling the temperature of each heated surface and the extent of contact of the yarn therewith so that different shrinkage is effected in different filaments and convolutions or loops are formed in the filaments which undergo lesser shrinkage, and winding the yarn under sufficient tension to straighten the convolutions. The yarn 1 is preferably taken from a supply package 3, over tensioning rollers 13 to heated pins 15, 17 which are connected respectively to heat sources 19, 21. The speed of the yarn over the heated surfaces is controlled by rolls 25 and 27 positioned upstream of a conventional ring and traveller spinning machine. In a preferred embodiment, two yarns each having filaments which differ from filaments of the other yarn in chemical composition and shrinkage value, are simultaneously heat treated and plied during the winding step. The plied yarns are preferably polyethylene terephthalate multifilament yarn and polyhexamethylene adipamide multifilament yarn. The. differential shrinkage in the yarn is developed when a woven or knitted fabric containing the yarn is finished. Several numerical examples are given in the Specification.
