Abstract

1,251,479. Motor vehicle sun visors. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 20 June, 1970, No. 30042/70. Heading B7J. A motor vehicle has a sun visor 1 connected to the header bar 6 of the vehicle by a bayonet joint which comprises a first socket part 11 fixed between the vehicle's header bar 6 and roof and a second part 13 which is rotatably mounted on, and axially slidable along, a rod 3 extending from the top of the visor 1, the second part 13 projecting through an aperture 9 in the header bar 6 so as to engage the socket 11. A first spring 19 is located in the socket 11 and engages the second part 13 and one end of the socket such that, when lugs 15 on the second part 13 are pushed through slots 29 in the socket 11 and the second part 13 is then rotated to engage the lugs 15 with recesses 17 in the socket, the lugs are forced towards the bases of the recesses, a second spring 21 being compressed between a flange 23 on the rod 3 and the second part 13 so as to support the rod by the flange 23. When all the above components have been assembled in their " in use " position, the free end of the rod 3 projects into an aperture 10 in the socket 11 and finally a cover 27 located above a bend 5 in the rod 3 is snap-fitted into the aperture 9 in the header bar 6.
