A method of producing sound damping material of the kind wherein spaced webs have a surface joined to one or each of an opposite pair of their edges comprises folding the webs by a compressive force applied in the plane of the webs. The webs may be completely or partially folded either before or after they are joined to the outer surface(s) by glueing or welding. The surface(s) may be flat or curved sheets of cardboard-lined plasterboard or may be constituted by walls, ceilings, doors or machine shields and the spaced webs may be of cardboard. Folding of the webs is effected by means of a power press or pressure rollers which can be joined by a belt.
