[Also in Division C2] Antibacterial compositions comprise a compound of formula: in which R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl group containing not more than 5 carbon atoms, each of R 2 , R 2 ', R 2 " and R 2 ''' is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, X is an oxygen or sulphur atom or an imino group and n is 2 or 3, or a physiologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient. The compositions may be administered orally, rectally or parenterally and may be in the form of granules, tablets, coated tablets, capsules, syrups, emulsions, suspensions, drops, ampoules or suppositories. The compositions may contain further physiologically active ingredients, e.g. compounds having antibacterial, antiprotozoal and/or anthelmintic activity.
