Abstract
1,249,962. Fuse-cords. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 29 May, 1970 [31 May, 1969], No. 26073/70. Heading F3A. A flexible fuse-cord comprises an explosive core around which is wrapped thin elemental metal or alloy strip to produce an inner sheathing, around which is spun an outer sheathing from elemental metal or alloy wire. The outer sheathing can be encased in a flexible tube of spun natural or synthetic fibres, e.g. rayon. An outermost covering of thermoplastic plastics material or a natural or synthetic rubber can also be provided. The metal or alloy of the inner and outer sheathings comprises steel, aluminium or copper. The wires comprising the outer sheathing consist of a strands formed from a plurality of wires. The explosive core comprises Octogen, Nitropenta, or Hexogen. In a method of manufacturing the fuse-cord, the explosive material is continuously delivered from a hopper 1a in the form of a column 1 around which the inner sheathing 2 is helically wound with overlap. Wire strands 3 and textile fibres 4 are then wound from units 3a and 4a, respectively, and finally a thermoplastics sheath is sprayed on the cord 5 so produced.
