Abstract
In the application of a tubular metal sheath to the core of an electric cable by feeding the core and a metal strip continuously through a shaping die which wraps the strip around the core so that the opposite edges of the strip overlap and extend lengthwise of the core, the shaping-die 9 is resiliently deformable et least between a position 14 at which the edges of the strip are divergent or slightly convergent and a position 15 at which the strip is fully wrapped into tubular shape. As a result, the sheath is formed in close contact with the core despite any variations in the diameter of the core along its length.
