Abstract

1,249,227. Coating substrate. J. P. STEVENS & CO. Inc. 21 Jan., 1969 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 3328/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A coating substrate comprises an open mesh screen 13, a non-woven fibrous web 11 engaging one side thereof and a mass of binder 15 dispersed at various positions or on the whole area on both sides of the scrim. The scrim may be woven, laid or knitted fibres of viscose rayon, polyamide, polyester or acrylic resins having a denier of 20-1260 and has as a thread count of 4 x 4-60 x 60 per inch. The non-woven web weighs 0À8-2 oz./sq. yd. and may comprise randomly disposed staple fibres, a layer of carded continuous fibres, paper or a felt of fibres having a denier of 0À75-150. Wool, hair, cotton, flax, sisal, hemp, viscose or acetate rayon, nylon, polyesters, polyurethanes and acrylic fibres are suitable. Specified binders are polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, melamine or resorcinol formaldehyde, neoprene and thioureas.
