Abstract

1,248,669. Spark erosion. E. V. KHOLODNOV. 22 Oct., 1969, No. 51664/69. Heading B3V. In a spark erosion method, an additional electrode 4 is positioned initially between the workpiece 1 and an end face of a rotating electrode 2 for maintaining a desired shape of a work-performing portion 6 of the electrode 2. As the electrode 2 is fed towards the workpiece 1, the former is eroded by the electrode 4 to maintain the circular shape of the portion 6. The electrode 4 is moved through guides 7, 8 in a direction S 2 to compensate for its wear. Apertures of varying diameter or slots of varying width may be formed in the workpiece 1 by moving the electrode 4 in a direction S 3 to vary the diameter of the portion 6. The electrode 4 may have a diameter of 20-30 microns and may be positioned 50-100 microns from the workpiece 1.
