Abstract

954,348. Electro-erosion; extrusion dies. FAIREY ENGINEERING Ltd. July 27, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14531/59. Headings B3P and B3V. An extrusion die 10 has its extrusion orifice formed with a helical groove 11 by electro erosion. The latter may comprise arc or spark erosion, electrolytic action or electro-abrasion using a fine abrasive in the fluid between an electrode and workpiece. In the particular embodiment described, the die 10 with a cylindrical bore is connected to the negative side and an electrode 12 to the positive side of a power source including a battery of spark capacitors. Electrode 12 has helical fins 14 of gradually increasing height and is fed through the die whilst dielectric fluid is supplied to the gap preferably being pumped through a bore in the electrode; the fluid discharges between the die and electrode.
