Abstract

1,248,618. Packing sheet material. GLAVERBEL. 6 Nov., 1968, No. 52574/68. Heading B8C. A package comprises a pack of sheets surrounded by at least one frame and extending therethrough, the sheets bearing edgewise on a bearer connected to the frame, and one or more stops on the bearer extending across one end or across opposite ends of the pack to prevent or limit displacement of the sheets through the frame in one or each direction. A stack of sheets, e.g. of glass, is held within two wooden frames 18 which surround the stack and-support a floor panel or bearer 6 provided with stop members 13, 14 which limit movement of the sheets which are placed on edge on the bearer. Each frame comprises two interconnected L- shaped sections, each section consisting of a relatively long member with one end received between two shorter members. The two sections of each frame are interconnected by steel bands 21 extending around the top and bottom of the frame and secured by nailing. The inside faces of the longer members and the floor panel are covered by a plastics material. A top panel 23 is attached to the frames; additional panels may be connected to the frames and floor panel to completely enclose the sheets. In an alternative construction only one frame is used, provided with a bearer panel and end stops. In further embodiments two or more stacks of sheets are supported on a bearer panel and adjacent stacks are separated by a spacer sheet; a panel may separate upper and lower stacks and be provided with end stops extending above and below the panel.
