Abstract

1,248,178. Water heater. JOH. VAILLANT K.G. 26 March, 1970 [5 May, 1969], No. 14713/70. Heading F4A. The heated water in coil 9 of a once-through water heater 15 is pumped at 16<SP>1</SP> either through a heating circuit (not shown) via feed line 23, return line 26 and pipe 27 or, by operating valve 12, through coil 25 in a domestic hot water storage cylinder 18 via pipes 24 and 27. Coil 9 is wound round duct 4 and passes through plates 6, both heated by rising hot gases from burner 5 which exit through cowl 7. Two rectangular or circular section expansion tanks 21, 22 or 19, 20 are positioned within the storage unit casing 16 in corners behind the cylinder 18 to keep the weight of the wall-mounted heater 15 to a minimum. Domestic hot water is drawn off from the top of cylinder 18 through pipe 29 and replenished near the base at 30 from the mains pipe 28. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) coil 25 in the storage unit and the heating circuit are permanently connected in series and are fed from the heater by a single pipe (37), there being no change-over valve 12.
