Abstract
1,247,580. Freezing liquids. W. S. DIXON. 12 Feb., 1969, No. 7499/69. Heading F4H. A liquid to be frozen is sprayed from sets of nozzles 20 and 21 on to the inside and outside of an annular evaporator formed of two generally cylindrical members 11 and 12 which merge together at their ends 13 and 14. The evaporator forms part of a refrigeration system including a compressor 24, a condenser 25 and an expansion valve 28, and refrigerant is supplied to the lower part of the evaporator at 27. A timer 31 opens a by-pass valve 30 to cause heating of the evaporator and harvesting of the frozen product. The evaporator is detachably suspended from a support 33. A plurality of evaporates may be connected in series and be surrounded by a common set of nozzles, Figs. 6-13 (not shown), and the expansion valve may be replaced by a capillary tube, Fig. 5 (not shown), which extends into the evaporator and which is surrounded by a harvesting hot gas line from the compressor.
