Abstract

1,247,382. Pressed lightweight concrete articles. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 20 May, 1969 [17 June, 1968], No. 28773/68. Heading B5A. A pressed concrete article is formed from lightweight aggregate concrete mix by vigorously mixing an air entraining agent with the mix, pressing an article formed from the mix in an appropriately shaped mould, transferring the article to a curing station and curing the pressed article. The lightweight aggregate is preferably a sintered pulverized fuel ash, a foamed slag or a bloated clay aggregate. The preferred method of preparation comprises mixing a predetermined amount of the air entraining agent with water, adding a small amount of the resulting solution to the drum of a paddle mixer, rotating the drum at about 20 r.p.m. and adding medium grade aggregate to provide about 40 wt. per cent of the final aggregate content, adding cement to the drum, adding aggregate fines to provide the remaining 60% of the final aggregate content, adding the remainder of the air entraining agent solution to the drum so that the water content of the mix is about 0À8% by weight of the cement content of the mix, rotating the drum for 1¢ minutes at 20 r.p.m., rotating the drum for 3 minutes at 80 r.p.m., introducing the mix into a mould, applying a pressure of about 350 p.s.i. to the mix in the mould, removing the pressed article from the mould and curing it.
