Abstract

1,247,126. Vane assembly for centrifugal separators. PORTA-TEST MFG. Ltd. 14 March, 1970, No. 12360/70. Heading B2P. A whirl-producing vane assembly 3 for mounting in a vortex tube 9 of a centrifugal separator, as described in Specifications 1,232,556 and 1,233,347 comprises a hub 1 having outwardly-extending curved vanes 2 defining curved grooves 3 extending generally longitudinally along the hub, the hub including a longitudinal bore 4 having an outlet 4a at one end of the hub, andat least one of the vanes 2 including a passage 6 extending between the end portion of the bore 4 remote from the outlet 4a and the outer surface of the vane. As shown, two pairs of opposed vanes 2 define helical grooves 3 and a passage 6 which opens tangentially into the bore 4 is provided in each vane of a pair of vanes. The outer surface of the vane assembly defines passages 10 with the inner surface 11 of the vortex tube 9. The outlet of each passage 6 communicates with an aperture 12 in the wall of the tube 9. The section 1b b of the hub may be conical instead of cylindrical. The assembly can be cast or moulded as a single unit.
