Operating belt-forks.-An automatic belt-shifting device, particularly for use with the reversing- gearing of a rotary washing-machine as described in Specification 124,026, comprises a box 2 containing a plate 11 which is continuously reciprocated by gearing from a driving-shaft A consisting of a belt 10 engaging stepped pulleys 7, 8. a worm and wheel 3, 4 and cams 15, 16. An upper plate 17, to which the belt fork 21 is adjustably fixed, is coupled to the plate 11 by, the spur 24 of a pivoted arm 22. To stop the machine, the arm 22 is turned back so as to engage a V-notch in a bracket 29; this uncouples the plate 17 and brings the belt K on the middle one of three pulleys. The box 2 is adjustably mounted on slotted brackets 34.
