Abstract

201,796. United Cigarette Machine Co., Inc., (United Cigarette Machine Co., Ges.). Sept.. 11, 1922. Expanding pulley gearing for cigarette-making machines comprises a movable control arm 12 operated by auxiliary cam mechanism 14 for stopping and starting. Pulleys 4, 6, Fig. 2, are mounted upon driving and driven shafts 2, 5. The movable flanges 4<a>, 6<a> .are connected by arms 11, 12 to a sleeve formed as a nut on a screwed spindle 7 operated from a hand-wheel 10. The arm 12 is pivoted on the sleeve 13 and is normally held bv the cam 14 so that the flanges 4<a>, 6<a> are operated in unison to change the speed. The cam 14 is secured to a collar 14a upon the sleeve 13, which is restrained from any but partial-turning movements by spring pawls 15, 15<a>, Fig. 6, which pass through an arc-shaped slot 16 in the sleeve and engage teeth 7b on the spindle 7. The pawls 15, 15<a> have inclined ends 15<b> adapted upon engagement with the ends 16a of the slot to raise the pawls singly from engagement with the spindle 7. When the spindle 7, Fig. 6, is turned clockwise, the pawl 15 is raised and the spindle 7 turns without moving the cam 14, to change the speed. An opposite rotation carries the cam 14 with it, moving the flange 6<a> alone to disconnect. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 189,972.
