1,246,531. Shaft couplings. VICTOR PRODUCTS (WALLSEND) Ltd. 5 March, 1970 [1 Jan., 1969], No. 95/69. Heading F2U. The two ends 1, 2 of like drill rod lengths have peripheral teeth 3 (e.g. buttress teeth) for transmitting torque in one direction and a spigot 5 and socket 6 connection, the spigot having a radially extending part 7 (e.g. a tee head, or a pin resiliently urged to protrude from the spigot) to engage behind a complementary radially extending surface 12 (e.g. one or two secantal pins or a secantal bore in the wall of the socket) to lock the drill rod lengths axially, which, upon torque reversal, can undergo limited relative rotation to unlock the surfaces 7, 12.
