Abstract

1,245,899. Electric torches. LAM LAN FAI. 4 March, 1970, No. 10386/70. Heading F4R. An electric torch which can produce light directed in either one of two different directions comprises a battery housing 2 and a reflector assembly 3 surrounding a bulb 6 in a bulb socket 1 supported by the housing, wherein the reflector assembly which has a conventional reflector 4 and a translucent window 7 positioned behind the reflector is movable relative to the torch body so that the bulb socket 1 with its bulb 6 can be positioned in front of the reflector 4 to produce a forward beam of light, or behind the reflector 4 to shine light through the window 7. The reflector assembly has a metal collar 15 having a part helical slot 16 in which the stud 17 on the torch body fits so that when the reflector assembly is rotated it moves longitudinally relative to the bulb to position the reflector 4 in front of or behind the bulb 6 as required. Bulb 21 is spare and is not lit. The window 7 is made of red plastics material and window 11 which protects the bulb and reflector is of colourless plastics material and may be a lens. A further colourless cylindrical window 13 has ribs 14 which act as diffusers. Pin 17 is spring loaded and can be depressed to remove the reflector assembly. A magnet 19 is provided on the battery housing 2 so that the torch can be supported by a structure of magnetic material.
