Abstract
1,245,574. Hinges. ARTHUR SHAW MFG. Ltd. 16 Aug., 1968 (16 May, 1967], No 5840/ 71. Divided out of 1,245,572. Addition to 1,021,771. Heading E2F. [Also in Division F2] A hinge comprises two relatively rotatable components and a bearing member, one component I having a boss 4 providing a housing for rotatably receiving the bearing member, the other component 2 having a boss 6 providing a mounting for the bearing member, the bearing member being dismountable from the boss 6 and. including a portion 17 of frusto-conical form surrounded by a sleeve 22. A bolt 24 extends through apertures in the bearing member and the bosses 4 and 6 and is in abutment with a spring washer 25 which in turn abuts the end of. the sleeve 22. Screwing the bolt 24 further into the tapped hole 9 forces the sleeve 22 more tightly against the wall of the housing 4 and thus increases the frictional resistance to relative rotation of the sleeve 22 and housing 4. The sleeve may be made of nylon or other non-metallic material and may be split into two identical halves 20, 21. A pair of grooves, on the sleeve engage ribs 18 on the post 17 to prevent relative rotation of the sleeve and post 17. The bearing member is mounted on the boss 6 by means of a key 11 having a head post 12 engaging in a slot 7 having pockets 8 in the boss 6. The two components 1 and 2 are separated from each other by unscrewing the bolt 24 and sliding the key 11 out of the slot 7.
