Abstract

1,244,083. Preserving animal hides. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 12 March, 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 12993/69. Heading A2D. [Also in Division C6] Fresh animal hides are preserved and dehaired by treating (e.g. brushing, spraying, immersing) them with an aqueous solution of an alkyl sulphoxide (e.g. dimethyl sulphoxide). The solution may also contain phenol, thiourea, salicylic acid or sodium salicylate. The process may comprise treating the hides with the alkyl sulphoxide in more than one stage. The treated hides may be placed in a sealed plastics bag.
