Abstract

1,243,622. Sighting- devices for missiles. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. (A.T.) Ltd. 30 July, 1962 [1 Aug., 1961], No. 27876/61. Heading F3C. A battery of ground to ground guided missiles, each of which is controlled by electrical signals transmitted from its launching point to the missile while in flight, through electrical leads trailed behind the missile, is guided by signals from a sighting device aimed at the target by an operator. The sighting device, which includes an optical system through which the target is maintained in view by mechanical adjustment, is associated with potentiometers which provide guidance signals which are functions of the instanteous target location corrected for the initial launching position of each missile. The tappings of the potentiometers are coupled together and are moved simultaneously with the optical system while the potentiometer windings, which are fixed, each have an initial setting corresponding to the launching position of the associated missile, The potentiometer signals are applied to pitch- and-yaw programme generators together with signals corresponding to the cross slope of the launching points and the target elevation.
