Abstract

1,243,540. Mine cars. ROBERT HUDSON Ltd. 22 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968], No. 50054/68. Heading B7L. A mine car 12 has a pair of rail wheels 30, 32 at either end and also includes an openable bottom 26 hinged at 25 to one end of the car 12 whilst at the other end of the bottom 26 is a guide wheel 28 which is engageable with a guide rail 14 over a dumping station cavity 10 whereupon the bottom 26 of the car 12 is opened, the guide wheel 28 being located above the lowest point of the rail wheels 30, 32 and the pair of rail wheels 30 remote from the hinged end of the bottom 26 being mounted so that the guide rail 14 can intersect the longitudinal rotational axis of this pair of wheels 30. As shown, the axles 34 of the pairs of wheels 30, 32 are cranked upwardly at 36 to allow the guide rail 14 to pass thereunder but the axles may alternatively comprise short stub axles. The bottom 26 is held closed by a pivotable catch arm 40 engaging a catch rod 38 and the catch arm 40 is caused to release the rod 38 by means of a pivotable release arm 42 attached to the catch arm 40 by a spring 45. The release arm 42 includes a roller 44 and in travelling in the direction of arrow 20 the roller 44 makes contact with a ramp 46 to pivot the release arm 42 anticlockwise to move the catch arm 40 and release the catch rod 38. In travelling in the direction of arrow 22 the arm 42 is pivoted clockwise and the bottom 26 remains closed. Support rollers 18 support the mine car 12 as it travels over the cavity 10.
