Abstract

1,168,748. Tipping railway wagons. MITCHELL ENG. (PTY.) Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [9 Jan., 1968], No. 30378/68. Heading B8E. [Also in Division G1] Railway wagon tipping apparatus comprises end mountings each having two roller-supported jaws 4, 6 of which the upper jaws 4 have arms 2 pivotable on a longitudinal beam 3 to clamp a wagon on a track section 1. The lower jaws 6 of the mountings support the track secton at a pivot 7 which is off-set from the longitudinal axis of the track section, this arrangement being used to operate a weighbridge 12 by means of rollers 13. To tip a wagon a winch 10 connected to at least one of the end mountings is operated and the wagon is tipped against a buffer beam 8. Further rotation of the tipping assembly causes a roller support 5 to engage the jaws 4 and the arms 2 to clamp the wagon. As the assembly returns to normal position, a roller 18 engages a clamp release cam 17 and the arms 2 are disengaged from the wagon. Vibrators 15 facilitate emptying the wagons.
