930,703. Railway cars for transporting vehicles. NIEDERSACHSISCHE WAGGONFABRIK JOSEPH GRAAFF G.m.b.H. July 14,1961, No. 25582/61. Class 103(4). A two-tier railway wagon provided with three wheel sets 8, 9, 10, Figs. 1 and 2, for transporting motor cars or small omnibuses, without exceeding the loading gauge, is characterized in that the wheel sets have a rolling diameter of less than 800 mm., preferably 730 mm.; the transverse frames 13 carrying the upper loading surface 14 are arched upwardly at 13a, Fig. 5, in their middle portions; the upper and lower loading surfaces 14, 15, in the regions of the wheel sets 8 and 10, can be raised and lowered (see e.g. the lower sections 15a, 15b, Fig. 2) by means of manually operated winches 33, 34; the lower loading surface 15 has depressions 19 in front of and behind the middle wheel set 9; and the upper loading surface 14 has an arch 14b, Fig. 3, directed upwardly in the longitudinal direction of the wagon above the middle wheel set 9, the length of the arch 14b not being greater than the wheel base of any of the vehicles to be loaded. When the wagon is used for transporting omnibuses as shown in Fig. 1, the end sections, e.g. 15a, 15b, are in their lowered positions in line with the surface 15 and flaps (not shown) in the sections above the wheel sets 8, 10 are upwardly inclined. Also the depressions 19, Fig. 4, receive one wheel set of an omnibus, the other set of which rests either on a fixed arch above the wagon wheel set 9 or on an arch formed of movable arms described with reference to Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown). In this case the upper tilted end of the omnibus is received within the arch 14b of the upper loading surface. When the wagon is used for transporting motor cars as shown in Fig. 2, the end sections 15a, 15b, are raised and the flaps therein are aligned with the sections. Moreover the depressions 19 are covered by pivoted or sliding flaps 22.
