Abstract

1,242,275. Making and filling packages. CLOUD MACHINE CORP. 19 Nov., 1968 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 54888/68. Heading B8C. A method or apparatus for making filled bags by e.g. heat sealing a continuous film or films, e.g. of paper, cloth or metal, optionally transparent and/or plastics coated, comprises feeding a strip 23 by means of a rotating disc 31 from a supply roll 20 through an optional printing device 26, and past a paper plough 27 which form guide rollers 29, 30, which press, a V- shaped fold in the strip. In the case when more than one strip is used then films are fed in parallel confronting relationship and sealed to give the required arrangement the V fold being thus uneccessary. Transverse seals 14, 16 are effected by contact with heated projections 32 on the rotating disc 31 and resultant pockets 33 are opened by an air supply 72 before being passed around a rotatable lower vacuum disc 106, Fig. 2, the pockets 33 being held open, and in place, by vacuum bellows 112 positioned between lands 116 which contact the transverse seals 14, 16. The pockets 33 are filled from a hopper 60 via spouts 138 which move into and out of, and around with the pockets on an upper rotatable, inclined filling disc 108. The pocket mouths are heat sealed by a device 46 and the pocketed strip turned horizontal by a roller 48 before being cut into individual bags by a combination indexer and slicer 50 and carried away by a conveyer 54. The lands 116 are adjustable to accommodate different sized strips for making different sized bags. Liquid or solid material may be packaged
