Abstract

1,242,248. Transistor amplifying circuits STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 Oct., 1968, No. 47238/68. Heading H3T. An electronic amplifier has a plurality of direct-coupled amplification stages each includ ing a semi-conductor device, including at least an output stage 12 and a further stage 15, the output stage 12 arranged to take minimum operating current from a power source and also being connected to the input of the further stage 15 which includes a semi-conductor device arranged to operate substantially saturated and also adapted to apply negligible load to the output stage and to produce a rectified signal in response to the output signal thereof, the output of the further stage 15 being connected to at least one of the semi-conductor devices so that the operating current of the output stage 12 increases in response to an increase in the output signal. In the embodiment the output of the further stage 15 is taken off via a potentiometer 20 and applied over resistor 10 to the input of the first stage 5, to which A.C. negative feedback is also applied from the output stage 12 via resistors 13, 14, 8 and capacitor 9. The temperature coefficient of the further stage 15 substantially compensates that of the other stages.
