[Also in Divisions B8 and F2] Apparatus for distributing measured quantities of feed during milking comprises a group of dispensing means 4, supply means thereto including respective conveyers 3 connecting each dispensing point to a common supply conveyer 1, clutch means for connecting each conveyer 3 to a common driving means, and a control system for operating each dispensing means 4 for a chosen time period governed by timing means. With the animals in milking position, a respective common drive shaft 11 having driving bushes 26 for each of a pair of groups of dispensing means 4 is set in rotation from a control desk 7. At the start of the feed period for each dispensing point, an electromagnet 23 of the respective clutch is energized to depress a spring-loaded switching lever 20 pivoted at 22, the opposite end of the lever 20 disengaging from a toothed annulus 17 which is left rotatable on a drive plate 14. A spring-biased lever 15, previously held disengaged by a stop 19 rigid on the annulus 17, then engages with a respective one of the bushes 26, causing the plate 14, with the annulus 17, to be driven by the shaft 11, thus driving a conveyer screw (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), rigidly connected to the plate 14, to deliver the feed. After the set time interval, the magnet 23 is de-energized, the annulus 17 is re-locked, and the lever 15 is disengaged from the bush 26 by striking the stop 19, and when all feeding is completed in the dispensing group, the drive shaft 11 is stopped.
