Abstract

1,242,222. Valves. INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL SERVICES Ltd. 6 Nov., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967], No. 52422/67. Heading C2V. Within the chamber 11 of a flow control valve 10, there is disposed a moulded, elastomeric material tubular member 12 whose configuration is such that at each of its ends it has a cylindrical portion 24, between its ends a central portion whose axial extent is delimited by the arrow 14, and between each end portion and the central portion an intermediate portion the axial extents of which are delimited by arrows 17 and 20. In the absence of any forces acting on the tubular member 12, both the central portion and each of the intermediate portions has a somewhat flattened elliptical shape in a plane perpendicular to the valve rectilinear axis 43, with the major axes of such elipses lying perpendicularly to the plane of the drawing. As depicted in Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown), the shape of each intermediate portion varies along the axis 43, with the major axis increasing in length from the adjacent cylindrical portion towards the central portion and the minor axis simultaneously decreasing in the same direction. The valve is closable by a pinch member 30 which co-operates with a chamber wall 28 and is openable, upon the withdrawal of the pinch member, by fluid pressure acting on the central portion. In modifications, the valve axis 43 may be other than rectilinear, with the relationship between it and the changing configuration of the tubular member being made to correspond to that outlined above. The pinch member may be made of two synchronized parts and the pinch member operator handle 36 may be substituted by any mechanical equivalent or by a pneumatic jack.
