1,242,210. Treatment of acid activated montmorillonite. BRAVEREI INDUSTRIE A.G. FUR. 3 July, 1968, No. 8427/71. Divided out of 1,240,678. Heading C1A, [Also in Division C6] An acid activated montmorillonite mineral is treated with an aqueous solution of sodium metaphosphate and HCl, and then washed with water and dried. The treatment reduces the amount of Fe and Al transferred to beer or wine when the product is used as an adsorbent therein. The product may be pressed or dried partially or completely, and may be formed into a suspension using a high speed dispenser. In the examples, Ca bentonite was preswelled with water, boiled in cone. HCl to activate, filtered, and treated with the reagent while on the filter.
