Abstract

1436466 Precipitated polyamide powders AKZO NV 27 July 1973 [29 July 1972] 35845/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C6] A method of treating a fermented drink comprises contacting it with a powdered polyamide adsorbent which has been prepared by a process comprising dissolving a polyamide in 30 to 55 wt. per cent H 2 SO 4 and precipitating it by dilution to an H 2 SO 4 concentration of 10 to 26 wt. per cent using water or H 2 SO 4 of less than 20 wt. per cent concentration, the proportion by weight of total H 2 SO 4 : poylamide being between 14 : 1 and 4 : 1 and the proportion of g. polyamide : ml. diluted H 2 SO 4 at the end of dilution being between 1 : 50 and 1 : 14. Precipitation may be effected in the presence of acid resistant fillers and/or beer clarifying agents, e.g. kieselguhr, kaolin, silica or alumina. The precipitate may be filtered, washed and partly or completely dried and may be size reduced in the wet or dry state. The polyamide may be polycaprolactam. Examples illustrate the treatment of beer.
