Abstract

1,242,155. Masted lift trucks. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. 30 Oct., 1969, No. 53155/69. Heading B8H. A side loader attachment 20 for a lift truck is provided with stabilizing devices 102 which, when the truck is operating in an aisle between storage racks, are operable to engage upper and lower surfaces of the racks 34 to stabilize the truck during the insertion or removal of a load in a rack. As shown, sleeve members 40, supporting the side-operating reach mechanism and removably supported on the forks 30 of the truck, are each provided with a pair of stabilizing devices 102. Each device 102 comprises a member 104, provided with storage rack engaging plates 114, 116, and a member 106, provided with a rack-engaging plate 130, the two members 104, 106 being pivoted at 108 to a bracket secured to the sleeve member 40. In operation, the plates 116, 130 of a device 102 at one side of the truck are brought into engagement with the bottom and top of a storage rack 34 by means of an hydraulic ram 136, and the plate 114 of the device at the other side of the truck is brought into engagement with the top of a rack 34 at the other side of the aisle. In a modification, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the members 104, 106 of each device 102 are replaced by a single bell-crank lever having a pair of rack-engaging plates, the arrangement being such that one of the plates engages the bottom of a rack at one side of the truck and the other plate of the corresponding device at the other side of the truck engages the top of a rack. When the devices 102 are engaged with a storage rack and the load support 66 of the reach mechanism is located beneath a load L, actuation of the rams of the devices 102 causes the load support to be raised into engagement with the load. The load support 66 is movable relatively to an intermediate frame 52 which is movable relative to the frame of the attachment by hydraulic rams 78, Figs. 3-5 (not shown), and can be extended to either side of the truck.
