Abstract

1,241,841. Rotary internal combustion engines. S. K. BANERJEA. Aug. 6, 1968, No.37542/68. Heading F1F. A rotary I.C. engine, comprising a stator having a chamber bounded by end walls and an endless wall perpendicular to and joining the end walls and an eccentrically mounted circular rotor having a plurality of vanes extending from the rotor surface into contact with the endless wall, wherein the contour of the endless wall is made up of four sequentially curved surfaces, BC, CD, DA, AB, Fig. 1, of which BC is a circular arc centred on the rotor axis and of radius equal to that of the rotor, CD is in accordance with the equation where P 1 = the distance between the rotor axis and any point on curve CD. a = the radius of the rotor b = a constant increment # = the angle between a line passing through P 1 and the rotor axis and a line drawn from the rotor axis to the end C of curved surface BC with the angle varying from 0 to 90 degrees. DA is a circular arc centred on the rotor axis and of radius equal to a + b and AB is in accordance with the equation P 2 = a + b cos <SP>2</SP># where P 2 the distance between the rotor axis and any point on curve AB a and b have the same values as before # = the angle between a line passing through P 2 and the rotor axis and a line drawn from the rotor axis to the end B of the curved surface BC with the angle varying from 0 to 90 degrees The I.C. engine has four combustion chambers 5 1 5 2 , 5 3 , 5 4 in the rotor periphery and a fuel injector 6, preferably a plurality thereof in axial alignment. Air is supplied by an engine driven compressor, as shown a centrifugal compressor 9, Fig. 2, to admission ports 8 in one end wall of the chamber. Exhaust ports 7 angularly displaced from the ports 8 in relation to rotor rotation in the other end wall are momentarily open at the same time as the ports 8 to permit scavenging. The engine may be water, oil or air-cooled. Two or more identical stator and rotor assemblies can be mounted side by side to increase engine output.
