Abstract

1,241,162. Pneumatic emptying of transport containers. SPEEDGRANES Ltd. 22 Aug., 1968 [26 May, 1967], No. 24734/67. Headings B8A and B8E. A bulk storage container, such as a hold of a ship, is provided with inflatable members 1, secured to the container wall at 5 and to the base at 4 adjacent a discharge channel 6, whereby material may be pushed towards the channel. As shown, each member 1 comprises an inner skin 2 and an outer skin 3 sealed together adjacent their peripheral edges. In modifications, a plurality of members 1 may be provided at each side of the channel 6, or each member may comprise a plurality of separately inflatable compartments. The inflatable members may be formed of a material which is sufficiently porous to permit the passage of some air therethrough under pressure but which is sufficiently impervious to the passage of air to permit inflation of the members. A conveyer belt and suction plant is provided in the channel 6.
